SLJ Week 2, Day 2 # Activities 1,2,3 2018-2019

Activity #1

On your blog, tell us whether or not you would like to try flax weaving. Does it interest you? Why or Why not?

First of all I would recommend flax weaving because various reasons. Reason 1 is that it looks fun, cool and cultural. I really enjoy and getting the chance to embrace New Zealand culture. I have tried weaving and it was very fun. It was hard and difficult, but practice makes progress and progress makes perfect.

Activity #2

On your blog, tell us about this person. Who are they? Why are they, In your opinion, so strong and tough?

My person is the famous "THOR!". THOR is a fictional character that is part of the famous Avengers, and is glady my favourite. This character strong and tough, without his hammer. He is in this category because it fits him well, based on all the movies, video clips I have seen.

Activity #3

On your blog, List 3 similarities and 3 differences between the 2 plants you choose
The 2 plants I chose was White Baneberry Plant & Baseball Plant

Differences

1.Height: The White Baneberry is 60CM, where as the Baseball Plant is 20CM.
2.Different Locations: Baneberry Plants are normally found in North America, where as Baseball Plant is found in South Africa.
3.Rarity: The Baseball Plant is very rare, so rare that people in South Africa protect it, where as the White Baneberry is I suppose less rare, to have people protect it.

Similarities

1.Dangers: They both are very toxic. The White Baneberry plant is very toxic, where as the Baseball Plant is toxic that makes severe skin problems.
2.They both are unique, and rare.
3.Nicknames: The Nicknames or names that were given to them fits them well. Baseball Plant is named a baseball because it gives looks of a baseball, same goes for the White Baneberry Plant, its nickname is doll eyes, based on its special shape of its fruit.

  1. Hi Mafi, you've put so much effort into this, I love how you actually put so much information about the plants than the site about plants. My question is what is the strangest plant that you ever seen.

    Talk to you later
    Merry Christmas

  2. Kia ora Mafi,

My name is Hazel and I am part of the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) team. I’ll be helping Sophie and the team out in Manaiakalani over the Christmas holidays.

You're right about flax weaving being a great opportunity to embrace New Zealand culture. What did you make when you tried flax weaving? What was difficult or challenging about it?

Thor is definitely very strong; a great choice for activity two.

Great choices of plants! They both sound very interesting. What do you think is the most interesting plant that we have here in Aotearoa?

It's great to see you using images to illustrate your blog post. Every time that we use an image on our blog, it's really important that we tell our readers where we found it, and give credit to the owner of the picture. To properly credit a picture you will need to include a link to the site where you found the image. We have created a guide that you might find helpful. You can check it out here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1VKjkMGwBrk2YI6Vtmg91OAQljr_T3ZSV6YZtu6MWFNM/
In future, you will need to follow these instructions to earn full points for any Summer Learning Journey activity that has asked you to post an image.

Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing more of your posts soon.

    Hazel :)
